World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership was over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
